In the face of today’s turbulent and often violent reality, much of my work has grappled with recent and contemporary history. Working on sea-reliefs offered a relief from the dramatic and often tragic subjects of my paintings and the news cycles.

The subject of this project is a has been meaningful to me since I settled near the sea in Jaffa. These paintings draw from my immediate visual environment, while also engaging with a long pictorial tradition of aiming for the sublime. From Turner to Kiefer, artists have sought to integrate representations of the visible with intuitions of the invisible world. The sea is a subject that leads vision in both directions: outward and inward.
